This build up of food particles can eventually lead to anaerobic bacteria, which is the culprit in producing that unpleasant “rotten egg” odor.

Another cause of Halitosis is periodontal disease. Bad breath is often caused by the advanced stage of this disease. Anaerobic bacteria can form from food particles below the gum line and yield unpleasant odors. Tartar or hard plaque build up on the gums can also cause mouth odor.
